Timers also became invaluable during Mama's dementia. I actually installed some of these before she had dementia, as it was difficult for her to reach to switch off some lights. I believe timers are a must for all elderly. And they are not just for lights. I got very, very creative with these! Some are more advanced in that they are digital and can have several on-off repeat cycles.
There are a lot of sellers and I'm sure one is as good as the other however these are the ones I used with good results.

SMART PLUGS!
Wifi smart plugs are fantastic and if you feel comfortable with an app for cameras then you can do this. It's easy. Can be switched on and off through the app. Again, many different sellers of these.
I was able to turn off lights with the wifi plug from halfway across the world. My mama thought I knew magic! I used it for the TV as well and set it on a timer to go on and off at certain times.
If you are new to tech and don't feel comfortable using apps, I would hold off on these. They are easy to use but the timers will work just as well. Plus you have to have a reliable network.

I personally had a lot of fun with this. Like I mentioned, I love gadgets and purchased this when I purchased the plugs.
You can control the bulb from anywhere and set a timer to go on and off and don't need big cumbersome timers...annnnndddddd... it changes colour!!!! It takes so little to keep me amused but, loved! And of course, you can access from Alexa or Google. I liked the yellow colour. It amused mama too.
