Tapo & Reolink Cameras


Another couple of security camera I experimented with.
Tapo and Reolink.
Similar which is why I'm putting them together.

First Tapo.
It offers tilt and pan features and provides a clear picture quality. It is comparable to Reolink however offers real-time customer service through chat, which I prefer.

Again, easy app and all cameras can be accessed from one page.
Subscription required to store videos and playback. Great price too!

I had the Tapo C210 - they do have a lot of different styles.

This one has:
  • High-Definition Video (it's a great picture!)
  • Pan and Tilt: So you can pan in for close ups and tilt it so it moves.
  • Great night vision
  • Motion Detection and Alerts
  • Two-Way Audio (sounds a bit robotic but not bad)
  • Yu can also install a microSD cards which you have to purchase separately.
  • Tapo app, easy to use.
  • If this is important to you, you can voice control with Google/Amazon Alexa

Challenges:
  • Customer Service Issues: Like a lot of services, support may not always be helpful, so you may have to try several times.
  • I found a noticeable lag in both audio and pan functions, which can occasionally malfunction (this happens with most of the cameras though)

You can capture every angle with this if you mount on the ceiling. I did not do this as I had to depend on carers to reset sometimes and I did not want them climbing ladders.
Can also be used outside - again really good picture quality at night.



 

Reolink can be a good camera - It's one of the more complex to set up - not sure why but I've found that it's not as quick to set up as others. However once it's set up quite impressive


  • Clarity is very good.
  • Quick to pan and tilt and you can set to real time track so it follows movement (I did not do this so I can't speak for long term and if it keeps up)
  • Not much of a lag
  • Quite clear when you are speaking though it
  • App quite easy to use as all camera's can be on one page.

Challenging
  • Once it's lost it's connection to the router, it can be quite difficult to set up again. (again this is based on having someone help you from afar. If you are close and can do yourself, then not so bad)
  • Customer service only available by email. No real time chat. So whatever is wrong with it, you jump though hoops trying to troubleshoot.
  • After a bit of back and forth, if you've tried everything they have suggested then they will replace it for you - you must send back the defective ones though or you will be charged. They will send you a label, all you have to do is package up the defective ones and mail them back. This is quite good for this company to do that. Other companies such as Blink, make you jump though hoops and still don't replace.
