I put these in place fairly early on, thankfully.
They were ideal because Mama used to walk around in the dark all the time. She just wouldn't turn on the lights, trying to save electricity. Knowing that there would be an issue at some point, I installed motion sensor lights.
These are great for several reasons: they light up the path when getting up in the middle of the night to go to the loo, they reduce electricity bills (yep, mama was right!), and they provide comfort since getting up in the middle of the night in pitch darkness can be scary.
As Mama's dementia progressed, I knew she wouldn't know how to turn the lights on or off, or she would forget to do so. Hence the motion lights.
I put them in places I knew she went often.
Under kitchen cabinets - illuminates sink and kettle. Path to bathroom. On the bathroom walls.
In the hall . Conservatory by the door. Wardrobe/Closets. I used heavy duty adhesive pads. You can find those here: https://www.caregivingfromafar.com/post/other-helpful-products
Once on, they are not coming off easily. So prepare for that too.
Take a look around the house and put them wherever you think they are needed.

These lights are really bright, but you will need someone to install them on the ceiling (if you want them there). They are rechargeable, which means you will need to get on a ladder to recharge them, similar to changing a bulb. However, this is more of an investment, meaning once installed, you will likely leave them in place as they are too cumbersome to move (well, for me)
We have low ceilings though. Keep that in mind.
Within 9-16 feet, the motion activated light will automatically light up and automatically turn off 20 seconds after motion. Rechargeable light can be fully charged in 12 hours and can last up about 180 days. No wiring required (this is the one I used)
Closet Lights Motion Sensored, LED Closet Light Motion Activated - USA
No Battery Needed- However does need to be hardwired - must be hardwired to a standard 4 in junction box.
